A heat pump is a system that transfers warm or cool air to your home. Unlike a gas or electric furnace that only heats your home, a heat pump offers heating and cooling functions.
During colder months, the heat pump removes the heat from the cold air outside your home and transfers that heat inside. In warmer months, the process reverses. The heat pump pulls the heat out of the inside air and deposits that heat outdoors.
This process requires an outdoor air compressor/condenser unit and at least one indoor air handler. When we install your heat pump, we drill a small hole in your wall and run a conduit between the two units. Inside the conduit, lines carry the air, refrigerant, and condensation between the two units. A control panel allows you to set your desired temperature.
At Smith & Willis Heating & Air Conditioning, we often recommend a heat pump for these room or home types:
Finished garages
Outbuildings
Home additions
Finished room or attic above a garage
Homes without ductwork
Depending on the area you need to heat, our team at Smith & Willis Heating & Air Conditioning can recommend the right heat pump for your residence. We recommend an air-source heat pump for many homes that transfers air between the indoor and outdoor units. In some situations, we may recommend a ground-source unit.
Heat pumps are available in single-stage, two-stage, or multi-stage designs. We may recommend a single-stage unit with one indoor air handler for single rooms. For larger spaces, we may recommend a two-stage or multi-stage model.
